Imagine how would rabbits live if WE didn't keep them captive?
They would most definitely eat grasses, bark, leaves fresh and dry some flowers and berries or herbs.
If you are concerned on how to feed your rabbit, just stop for a moment and figure out how to imitate the wild .
Hay is very important to a rabbit gastrointestinal tract and also for keeping their teeth healthy and trimmed down. The best Diet for a rabbit is 80 % hay,12 Dark green leaves and only 6% pellets and 2 % occasional treats like carrots, bananas, papaya maybe once a week.
Of course we live in a society that "Easy" is the mode everyone chooses to live, people no longer cook for their families, they eat "Easy" packaged food ready to just microwave, children are growing up alone because their parents are always at work and family meals are a thing of the past.....I know....
But if you are like me and you love being old style, cooking for your family, having a garden and giving a great deal of your time to the "old style of living"...then you want to rethink how you feed your rabbits, they need hay practical or not, that's just how God made them and he designed their bodies to function at it's best when high quality hay is provided.
Here is what we do for our rabbits, we have a hay ball packet full with fresh hay daily and replenished every time we see that it need. We have never had to trim their teeth or had a blockage because our bunnies eat fresh timothy hay, although much more expensive then alfalfa grass hay like timothy hay or orchard hay are full of fiber and low in calories making the perfect diet for your furry friend!
