There are many babies going home this month, I thought it would be a great idea to share some things you should expect.
As you can imagine riding in the car will cause a measure of stress on your bunny,by the time you get home, possibly both of you are nervous, nothing is the same ,the smell of your home is different, the noise, cage everything....So when you get home you should just put the bunny where they will live and let them inspect, smell, hear and relax for few hours...Make sure his feeder is full and water is fresh. If in few hours your kids are anxious and want to hold, make sure they know how. holding their back legs, giving support and also a feel of security. don't scream or make much noises, they get scared easily with strange sounds.
Make sure that a litterbox is inside the cage and if you remove the bunny out of the cage, that you return him for potty breaks constantly. He is potty trained in confined spaces,if you just let him run out free at your house in the first day ,he will not find his litter first.
keep him from laundry rooms or closed bathroom as can get really hot, bunnies are sensitive to hot temperatures.
Questions and Answers
Q: Does my bunny need a Blanket to sleep?
A: No, they don't need blankets or bedding,if you use bedding he will think is his litter. Keep the cage free of any material other then litterbox. when you give them Hay make sure that is in small amounts, just enough to eat immediately.
Q: Do I have to buy my litterbox and water bottle from you?
A: No, you don't have to ,but i recommend, I use all the same colors and they get used to that,if you change shape and color expect accidents,so it's up to you. I recommend the least amount of changes.
Q:All my bunnies are potty trained! what do that mean?
A:IF you follow my directions they will continue to use their litterbox at your home,if you don't then they will pee pee wherever they are. Do not put bedding in the cage. Let the bunny be alone to explore his new space for at least 2 hours, they are stressed after the car ride home,if you have kids just explain that before the bunny arrive.
Q: will my bunny eat and drink normally?
A: They can,but I wouldn't expect them to eat for few hours.
Q: will all their poop be in the litter?
A: problably not. as they adapt to the noise and smell of their new home ,they will go back using the litter, specially if you didn't buy one of mine which is what they have seen since birth, they will be confused and drop "pellets" out in the cage. Just pick it up and put it back in the litterbox until they understand,That's their bathroom.
Q: do I have to clean my bunny?
A: In the first few days I recommend a adult to check the baby bottom every once in a while as little "poop" can be stuck around the tail area,do not allow your child to do it as they can pull hard and rip the skin, which will cause intense bleeding and possible death. After that they groom themselves, they don't need baths.
Q: Can I give veggies or treats to my bunny?
A; I recommend that you do not give any treats or veggies to your bunny until they are 4 months old, many veggies will cause severe intestinal problems at this early age.
Q: What should I do if I'm not sure or have questions?
A: Call me 801-450-0675
