It all depends who you ask.... some people don't recommend greens ,others just feed pellets, others love artificial treats.... Here is what I have to say about feeding bunnies.
Health is my number one concern, I want to make sure that the money I spend is on healthy organic food not in Vet bills. If you know me ,you know that all my bunnies goes to the vet. We believe that if you have check ups your bill is a lot smaller than paying emergency treatment. I simply couldn't bare watching my animals dying at home, I rather spend the money specially because I get paid for their babies, is just fair to use that money for their care and health.
First of all Luise, Larissa and I work tremendously hard to provide fresh organic food at all times. We plant on our green house during the winter months and we buy organic greens when we are out in the garden, Harmon's have always a beautiful healthy selection of dandelions, Kale and other dark greens.
We feed a high quality Pellet to begin with, the amount of money that you could save by purchasing cheap feed will be spent on vet care, so why even go there. I feed a mixture of 18 % protein and 24 % fiber. I had a judge calling Kirby "well loved", I took it as a compliment... in the show table you don't really want that but, you all know that Kirby is indeed Well Loved!! Anyways for me it all begins with their pellets and hay being of the highest quality I can find in Utah. Timothy hay is on their hay ball 24 hrs. I feed them twice a day a fresh salad that we call "saladinha" in Portuguese which means little salad. We like to switch back and forth kale, Collards, mustard greens, spinach and Parsley. we moderate carrots and radishes...but yet we all deserve treats.
Water is our number one priority specially in the winter when they need a lot of it to keep hydrated and healthy, our water bottles have never frozen of course due to having a insulated rabbitry, my hubby took a great care of us last year and finished our rabbitry really nicely, then we also have a heater and a few heat lamps, you all know I'm Brasilian and we like it warm. freezing weather is my enemy, so we keep it warm in the rabbitry.
To top it all of we make sure that every bunny gets a good amount of time outside daily, that's right, you heard me,Daily! Again My hubby gave us 4 huge pergolas, custom made to fit my bunnies needs of shade so now they have a lot of space for their play pens and exercise areas, we are planning on teaching them Jump in the spring as well, in Japan where my brother lives their Show means Jumping hurdles and I just can't wait to try it. So just like for you and I, good healthy food and exercise is the key to good health.
Welcome to my Blog. I hope to inspire you to develop a wonderful relationship with your rabbits. I will share my thoughts and daily updates here. I hope you enjoy!
