Rabbits have been know as farm animals, covered in straw and hay, they smelled like a barn.
For years people kept bunnies in outside hutches, forgotten by their owner, they became antisocial and lonely.
All those scenarios are a thing of the past. With the help of social media people are learning more about how to keep bunnies indoors and they are loving it!
Know before adopting:
Rabbits are exotic pets and they are not cheap to keep. At around 4 months of age they must be spayed or neutered in order to continue being great indoor pets. Unaltered rabbits will often become territorial and some times agreesive. Spay and neuter is not a optional surgery.
Many rabbits are purchased on a whim at pet stores or local classifieds, the results are sad. They end up in shelters, because their owner cannot tolerate their behavior.
Not all vets will neuter or spay a rabbit,so you will need a exotic pet Vet. They are happier in multiples numbers, as they are herd animals.
Why they are great:
Rabbits are gentle and quiet. They bond to their human families and are so much fun to watch.
Many people are allergic to cats but not to rabbits.
They can be litter box trained.
Rabbits are clean, they groom themselves daily. Their fur do not smell bad.
Rabbits do not require vaccinations in the USA. They do not transmit diseases to us.
Rabbits often are accepted in hotels.
