When I started to breed Holland lops, I had a tough time because I refused to use wire cages. We didn't want to raise smelly rabbits, therefore we had to learn how to potty train our rabbits so we could have clean hutches. Nowadays at least here in Utah, everyone sells their rabbits as potty trained. So I wanted to write a few lines about potty training rabbits and how to tell the difference between a potty trained rabbit and a not potty trained rabbit.
In my opinion you cannot call a rabbit that lives in wire cages potty trained. If you really trust your process then you do not need wire cages. The first sign of imposters is that they call their babies potty trained but they keep their parents in wire cages. Do you believe that the baby saw his mom peeing everywhere thru her wire cage but chose to go to his litter box? No way!!!! a baby that sees his mom peeing on the floors will do just the same. So, save yourself the headache and run! If you truly want a potty trained baby you must to see how the parents are potty trained,if they are in wire cages or a cage full of shavings, the baby in question is not potty trained. Is just that simple.
Just because the breeder placed a litter box inside the hutch or cage doesn't mean that the rabbit is potty trained. Ask yourself:
We had a baby peanut 2 weeks ago!
A "peanut" is a baby from parents that carries the dwarf gene, these babies are the ones that inherited double dwarf gene and cannot grow.
Beating all odds our peanut is well and alive today. He is still nursing and walking around his nest box. We are delighted to see his little face each day and cannot bear the thoughts of losing him. I appreciate your kind messages and offering to adopt him if he survive. We will keep him if he survives, but I appreciate your affection toward him.
Our toys are homemade, rabbit safe and fun.
You can order as gifts or for your own bunny. We offer subscription and individual orders.
